Italian boxer Carini abandoned her fight with Algeria’s Imane Khelif after just 46 seconds due to safety concerns, leaving her in tears.

Angela Carini, expressing her heartbreak, said, “It hurt so much. I went to the ring to honour my father. I preferred to stop for my health. I have never felt a punch like this.”

The International Boxing Association, aiming to support athletes, recently announced a $50,000 prize for gold medal winners.

IBA President Umar Kremlev emphasized the importance of protecting boxers, stating, “I couldn’t look at her tears. We will protect each boxer. Only eligible athletes should compete in the ring for the sake of safety.”

Khelif and Lin Yu-ting, disqualified from last year’s World Championships for gender eligibility issues, were allowed to compete by the International Olympic Committee, which led to significant controversy.
