Former President John Dramani Mahama attended the ordination ceremony of Most Reverend Francis Bomansaan as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wa on Friday.

Bishop Bomansaan, born in Kaleo on January 19, 1962, has had a distinguished career in the Catholic Church, joining the Society of the Missionaries of Africa in 1990 and serving as a parish priest in several locations.
During the ceremony, Mahama, who is also the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), praised the Catholic Church for its contributions to the nation.

He congratulated Bishop Bomansaan and encouraged him to use his new role to pray for Ghana, especially with the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Mahama highlighted the need for a fair and transparent electoral process, stressing the importance of avoiding unrest similar to that seen in neighboring countries. He underscored the need to safeguard democracy and ensure peaceful coexistence.
Mahama’s attendance underscores his close ties with the Catholic community. He also took a moment to remember the late Cardinal Richard Kuuia Cardinal Baawobr with fondness.
