The 27-year-old finished third in the men’s 10,000m final to secure the bronze medal, increasing the U.S. medal total to 42.

Fisher became the second American man to medal in this event in 56 years and the fourth American man to ever medal in the event at the Olympics.

Before Fisher’s feat, the last American to medal in the 10,000m was Billy Mills, who won gold at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Fisher’s accomplishment marks a significant milestone in American distance running history.

While Fisher will soak up this accomplishment, his Olympic journey is not over. He has also qualified for the 5,000m event and will begin his quest for another medal on August 7.

If he qualifies for the final, he will compete for another medal on August 10 at 1:50 p.m. ET.
