Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has vowed to honor and support Jamaican artist Vybz Kartel following the latter’s recent release from prison.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was freed after serving a 13-year sentence, following a pivotal decision by the Court of Appeal that dismissed the need for a retrial on his previous murder charges.

The Court of Appeal’s ruling, which came on March 14, 2024, overturned Kartel’s conviction due to juror misconduct that tainted the trial’s fairness. This decision concluded a protracted legal battle that initially saw Kartel and his co-accused convicted in 2014 for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

In a social media post, Shatta Wale expressed his jubilation over Kartel’s release. The Ghanaian artist revealed his plans to visit Kartel in Jamaica to celebrate his newfound freedom.

“I will travel. I will go to Jamaica this time. You will see me on TikTok sweeping in front of Vybz Kartel’s gate. I will become his servant at his house,” Shatta Wale declared enthusiastically.

Shatta Wale also took the opportunity to critique some Ghanaian musicians who, he feels, have only recently begun acknowledging Kartel’s significance.
