Aerosmith, one of rock’s top-selling acts, announced the end of its touring days on Friday, August 2 2024, citing lead singer Steven Tyler’s enduring vocal injury as the reason.

Tyler’s injury, sustained during the “Peace Out: The Farewell Tour,” has proven to be severe and irreversible, leading the band to conclude that he will never fully recover.
The tour, which began in May 2023, was postponed after just a few shows when Tyler suffered an injured larynx. Despite months of effort and top medical care, Tyler has been unable to restore his voice to its former strength.
“We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible,” Aerosmith said in a statement.
“We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.”
While it remains uncertain if this retirement from touring means the end of live performances for Aerosmith, the band has indicated that they made genuine attempts to complete their latest tour.

Initially, the tour was rescheduled for later in the year, with performances pushed to September before Friday’s announcement.
The final show of the tour took place on September 9, 2023, in Elmont, New York. Aerosmith’s last album was released in 2012.
The band emphasized that it would be challenging to replicate their distinctive sound without Tyler’s extraordinary and often raspy voice, describing it as “an instrument like no other.”
Aerosmith has sold over 150 million records, according to Billboard, and has placed 28 songs on the Billboard Top 100, including the No. 1 hit “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” from the 1998 “Armageddon” soundtrack.
The band’s music became a staple of FM radio with hits like “Dream On” and their 1986 collaboration with Run-DMC on “Walk This Way,” which introduced them to a new generation of fans.
