American swimmer Katie Ledecky has set a new Olympic record with her gold medal performance in the women’s 1500 meter freestyle at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Ledecky clocked a remarkable time of 15:30.02, surpassing her own previous Olympic record from Tokyo 2020.
On Wednesday afternoon, Ledecky dominated the race from the start, maintaining a lead of more than 10 seconds over her competitors by the finish.
Anastasiya Kirpichnikova of France earned the silver medal with a time of 15:40.35, while Isabel Gose of Germany took the bronze with a time of 15:41.16.

This victory marks Ledecky’s fourth Olympic appearance. At just 15 years old, she made her international debut at the 2012 London Olympics. Now 27, Ledecky is widely regarded as the greatest female swimmer of all time.
In addition to her 1500m freestyle gold, Ledecky has also secured a bronze medal in the women’s 400m freestyle. She is set to compete in two more finals: the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay on Thursday and the women’s 800m freestyle on Saturday, August 3 2024.
