Legendary Actress Maame Dokono Firmly Denies Ever Being President Rawlings’ Girlfriend

On July 30, 2024, Maame Dokono hosted a press launch for her memoir, ‘By the Fireside,’ at Silverbird Cinemas in Accra. This event celebrated her 80th birthday and 60 years in the acting industry.

During her speech, the iconic actress addressed rumors about her alleged relationship with President Rawlings. She firmly denied these claims, stating, “I was never romantically involved with President Rawlings.”

Maame Dokono also reflected on her political journey, highlighting that Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the late President’s wife, was instrumental in introducing her to politics. She shared the difficulties she faced due to her political engagement.

To navigate the political landscape, she joined both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), explaining that she did so to ensure she wasn’t left behind if one party lost power.

Despite her strategic political involvement, Maame Dokono emphasized that she has since retired from politics.

She announced that her memoir, which promises to be an insightful read, will be officially launched on August 7, 2024.
