Onyeka Nwelue Mourns Namesake Onyeka Onwenu, Recalls Her Prophetic Warning Before His Near-Fatal Accident

Nigerian author Onyeka Nwelue has recently paid tribute to his namesake and birthday mate, Onyeka Onwenu, reflecting on their past interactions.

Both share not only a name but also a birthday on January 31. Nwelue recounted a memorable moment when Onwenu, who was the host of his 30th birthday party, issued a chilling warning.

On his social media, Nwelue shared that Onwenu advised him not to eat anything at the event, saying, “Something bad is about to happen.” The following day, Nwelue was involved in a severe car accident that left him in a wheelchair for three months.

Nwelue is an accomplished author, having written 22 books, with most published through his own ventures.

His works include “The Beginning of Everything Colourful” and “The Lagos Cuban Jazz Club,” which were shortlisted for awards by the Association of Nigerian Authors in 2018.

He has also been recognized for his other literary works such as “The Strangers of Braamfontein” and “An Angel on the Piano.”

In addition to his literary achievements, Nwelue’s documentary “House of Nwapa” was shortlisted for Best Documentary at the 2017 Africa Movie Academy Awards.

His film adaptation of his novella “Island of Happiness” into the Igbo film “Agwaetiti Obiụtọ” also received accolades at the 2018 Africa Movie Academy Awards.
