Veteran Nigerian singer Onyeka Onwenu has reportedly passed away at the age of 72.

The beloved artist is said to have collapsed after performing at an event in Lagos on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024.
The incident occurred at a birthday party where Onwenu had been performing on stage. After returning to her seat, she suddenly collapsed.
She was immediately rushed to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, but despite the efforts of the medical team, she was pronounced dead. The cause of death has not been confirmed.

Onyeka Onwenu had an illustrious career that spanned over 40 years.
She was a multifaceted talent, excelling as a singer, songwriter, actress, journalist, and politician. Onwenu released her first album in 1984 and became famous for hits like “One Love,” “Iyogogo,” and “Ekwe,” leaving an indelible mark on the music industry.
