Amaarae, born Ama Serwah Genfi on July 4, 1994, is a Ghanaian-American singer-songwriter known for her innovative fusion of pop, R&B, afrobeats, and alté music. She has garnered international acclaim for her unique sound and fluid representation of gender and sexuality.

Early Life and Education

Amaarae was born in the Bronx, New York, and spent her childhood between Atlanta, Georgia, and Accra, Ghana. She began writing songs at the age of 13 and developed her musical skills while pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta. During her college years, she took voice lessons and honed her songwriting abilities.

Musical Career

Amaarae released her debut EP, Passionfruit Summers, in 2017, which showcased her distinct style and garnered attention in the music industry. Her debut studio album, The Angel You Don’t Know, was released in 2020 and received critical acclaim, with the track “Sad Girlz Luv Money” featuring Moliy gaining popularity on TikTok. The song was later remixed with Kali Uchis and charted globally.

On June 9, 2023, she released her highly anticipated second album, Fountain Baby, which has also been well-received.
