Afolayan, who previously announced his plans to film parts of the series in Ghana, shared photos of his scouting journey on social media on Tuesday, July 23.

The international expansion is part of a collaboration with Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, CEO of Ghana’s National Film Authority. Asante welcomed the venture, emphasizing Ghana’s allure as a prime destination for filmmakers. In an Instagram post, she invited the global film industry to explore the country’s stunning landscapes and facilities.

Afolayan’s decision to include Ghana in the series’ second season follows the success of the first season, which was shot entirely at the Kunle Afolayan Production (KAP) Film Village in Igbojaye, Oyo State.

The inaugural season, a sequel to the 2022 Netflix original film Anikulapo, was a grand spectacle, featuring a cast and crew of 600.

The series continues the saga of Saro, a character who originally arrived in Oyo as a traditional textile weaver and became entangled in a complex romantic affair with Queen Arolake. In the new season, viewers will witness Saro’s resurrection and further exploits, while Arolake, now a wealthy woman, faces new formidable adversaries.

The cast of Anikulapo: Rise of the Sceptre includes Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, Adebayo Salami, Layi Wasabi, Moji Afolayan, Aisha Lawal, Ronke Oshodi, Jide Kosoko, Adeniyi Johnson, Funky Mallam, Ogogo Taiwo Hassan, Eyiyemi Afolayan, Lateef Adedimeji, Uzee Usman, Gabriel Afolayan, and Owo Ogunde.

With this new chapter, Afolayan aims to blend the rich cultural heritage of Ghana with the compelling narrative of his series, promising an even more immersive experience for fans.
