The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has instructed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to suspend the salaries of all teaching staff at Colleges of Education for July 2024.

This directive, issued on July 22, 2024, comes at the request of the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The salary suspension is a response to the ongoing strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association Ghana (CETAG), which began in June 2024.
The strike is in protest of the non-implementation of an outstanding arbitration award by the National Labour Commission (NLC).

GTEC’s letter, signed by Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Head of IPP at GTEC, specifies that the College Principals are not to validate the July salaries for teaching staff. However, the salary payments for College Principals are unaffected.
CETAG maintains that their strike is lawful and has warned that they will pursue legal action if the government proceeds with the salary freeze.
