Abdul-Rahman Amoadu will oversee Newmont’s business operations in Africa, including the Akyem and Ahafo South mines and the Ahafo North project in Ghana, as well as joint venture exploration projects elsewhere in Africa.

Natascha Viljoen, Chief Operating Officer of Newmont, highlighted Amoadu’s extensive background in finance, operations, and international trade as key qualifications for his new role.

“Rahman’s global experience and familiarity with the African continent make him uniquely suited to lead our business in Africa as we expand our mining portfolio,” Viljoen said.

Newmont has been a major player in the African mining sector since 2006, with the Ahafo South mine, followed by the Akyem mine in 2013. The company is the largest gold producer in Ghana and the biggest employer in the mining sector.

Amoadu’s appointment comes as Newmont advances its Ahafo North project, set to become the company’s third mine in Ghana.

Previously, he served as the Managing Director of Newmont’s Yanacocha mine in Peru and held roles as South America Regional Chief Finance Officer and Africa Regional Chief Finance Officer.

Before joining Newmont, Amoadu had a successful career at Maersk, where he worked in senior management roles across Africa and Europe.
