Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has voiced her concern over the increasing number of Ghanaians leaving the country in search of better opportunities abroad.

She believes that to curb this mass exodus, significant improvements are needed across various sectors to make citizens feel more comfortable and valued within their own country.
Sista Afia’s comments were in response to the recent disappearance of the Ghanaian Paralympic contingent in Oslo, which has highlighted the struggles faced by many Ghanaians, including athletes and disabled individuals, in their pursuit of a better life.
“I went to pick someone at the airport and when I got to Terminal Three, the place was packed with people leaving the country,” Sista Afia shared, reflecting on her personal experience. “The sad reality is these people are not comfortable here and have to leave. Such disabled people will be given a comfortable life abroad. They will be fed and taken care of, unlike here where they are not well catered for.”

She lamented the lack of support and attention given to lesser-known sports and athletes in Ghana, pointing out the struggles faced by the Ghanaian Paralympic team as an example. “Such lesser-known sports are not given the needed attention. Even the Black Princesses had to complain about their bonuses and that is bad,” she said.
Her call for systemic improvements aims to address the root causes of this migration, advocating for a society where all citizens, including athletes and disabled individuals, are adequately supported and valued.
The singer’s concerns echo a growing sentiment among Ghanaians who believe that enhancing the nation’s infrastructure, social services, and support systems is crucial in stemming the tide of emigration and building a more prosperous and inclusive society at home.
