Alongside Cooper, several other prominent figures, including former astronaut and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, are being considered.
Currently completing his second term, Cooper has expressed a desire to continue serving the public. However, he has avoided direct comments about his future in the presidential race or any potential vice presidential role.
Speculation has long suggested that Cooper might take on a role with the Biden administration if President Biden is re-elected, given that Cooper’s term ends on December 31.

Previously, Cooper’s name had been linked to a possible Cabinet position, but he has also been mentioned as a potential running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris, with whom he shares a longstanding friendship from their time as attorneys general.
Recently, Cooper publicly supported Harris on social media, endorsing her candidacy for president. He praised her capabilities, emphasizing her ability to lead effectively and take on Donald Trump.
Cooper expressed his enthusiasm for campaigning with Harris and helping to secure victories for Democrats in North Carolina and beyond.
