Manchester United has completed their first major signing since the departure of the Glazers, acquiring Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5 million.

This fee surpasses Zirkzee’s release clause but allows United to spread the payment over three years.
Zirkzee, 23, had an impressive 2023/24 season with Bologna, where he was named Serie A Under-23 Player of the Year and helped his team secure a place in the Champions League.
His experience with the Dutch national team further adds to his appeal for United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, who is also Dutch.

This transfer marks a significant move for United under the new ownership of INEOS and aligns with ten Hag’s strategic goals.
Zirkzee is expected to provide valuable competition and support for the current striker, Rasmus Hojlund.
His skills and drive for success resonate with ten Hag’s football philosophy, suggesting that Zirkzee could become a central figure in Manchester United’s future plans.
