Speaking at the Third Special Congregation of Valley View University (VVU) in Accra, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of voting as a fundamental right and urged the SDA leadership to seek practical solutions that allow members to participate in the election.

The SDA Church has submitted a memorandum to Ghana’s Parliament requesting a change to the election date, currently set for Saturday, December 7, 2024.

This date coincides with the Biblical Sabbath, which the Church observes, potentially disenfranchising nearly one million Adventist voters.

The Church’s concerns echo those from the 1996 elections when over 95 percent of Adventist voters abstained due to the same issue.

President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the Church’s right to religious observance but stressed the need for dialogue to balance religious and civic duties, ensuring no eligible voter is excluded from the electoral process.
