Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has demanded an apology from Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer.

The demand follows controversial remarks made by Dr. Prempeh, also known as NAPO, during a rally at Kumasi’s Jubilee Park on July 9.
NAPO said, “No president since independence has developed Ghana more than President Akufo-Addo; not even your Kwame Nkrumah.”
These remarks have sparked widespread criticism and public outcry.
Critics have specifically pointed out Dr. Prempeh’s apparent disregard for the advice of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to avoid actions that could potentially reflect poorly on his role as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate.

Speaking on GhanAkoma, Nana Akwasi described NAPO’s comments as disrespectful and arrogant, emphasizing the failure to heed the Asantehene’s counsel.
“Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh disregarded the advice of his uncle, the Asantehene, who is also the Ashanti Kingdom’s overlord. Despite the close proximity of three kilometers from the Manhyia Palace to the Jubilee Park, Dr. Prempeh reinforced his arrogance by disparaging Ghana’s first President in such a manner,” Nana Akwasi remarked.
He further urged, “We call on Dr. Muhammadu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to issue an unequivocal apology to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the family of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, all former Presidents of Ghana, and the general public for their disrespect, impunity, and arrogance.”
