According to a police statement issued on Wednesday, July 10, Zfancy was granted bail and handed over to the Practitioners of Content Creation, Skit-Making and Influencers Guild of Nigeria (PCCSIGN).

Zfancy was initially apprehended on July 3 at an apartment in Abuja following the creation of prank videos that simulated serious offenses, including rape.

In an official statement on July 4, the police confirmed his arrest in connection with these prank videos. However, subsequent investigations revealed that the videos were staged and scripted, intended solely for entertainment purposes.

After his release, Zfancy was cautioned by authorities to refrain from producing pranks that could potentially disrupt public peace or provoke unrest.

“Earlier today, on the 10th of July 2024, at the Force Headquarters, Mr. Zion Ubani, also known as Zfancy, was released on bail to representatives of the Practitioners of Content Creation, Skit-Making and Influencers Guild of Nigeria (PCCSIGN). The delegation was led by Mr. Tokoni Peter Igoin, Special Assistant to the President on ICT Development and Digital Innovation.

“Mr. Ubani was previously detained by the NPF-National Cybercrime Centre over prank videos that falsely accused him of serious crimes, which were later determined to be scripted. He has been cautioned against engaging in pranks that could disturb public peace. While promoting creativity among young people, the NPF urges content creators to use social media responsibly and avoid spreading misinformation that could incite disorder,” the police statement concluded.
