Seun Kuti, son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has made startling accusations against the late MKO Abiola and his wife, Simbiat.

In a recent statement, Seun claimed that the Abiolas attempted to frame his father for armed robbery during the military dictatorship of Muhammadu Buhari.

According to Seun, the Abiolas fabricated a story claiming that Fela and his associates had stolen their Ferrari at gunpoint. This accusation came at a particularly dangerous time, as Buhari’s Deputy Head of State, Tunde Idiagbon, had implemented harsh laws making armed robbery punishable by death.
Seun explained that MKO Abiola and Simbiat filed a police report stating they had witnessed Fela and his gang commit the alleged robbery.

This led to Fela’s arrest, putting him at risk of capital punishment. However, Fela was fortunately able to prove his innocence as he was performing in Cameroon on the day of the supposed crime.
In response to this alleged setup, Seun recounted a bizarre act of retaliation. He claimed that Fela and his elder brother Femi took 12 buckets of feces to Abiola’s house in the middle of the night and smeared his compound with it. Seun referenced Fela’s song “Give Me Shit, I Give You Shit” as context for this incident.
The next day, according to Seun, the police visited Fela’s house to investigate the incident at Abiola’s residence. Seun stated that his father denied involvement but allegedly said he would smear Abiola’s house with feces if given the chance.
These allegations shed new light on the complex relationships between influential figures in Nigerian history, mixing political intrigue with personal vendettas.
