Renowned lawyer Maurice Ampaw recently opened up about his complex relationship with his late father, Gibson Dokyi Ampaw, who served as a lawyer and Minister of Health during the Busia administration.

Speaking on The Delay Show, Maurice revealed that his parents separated when he was just two years old, which led to a distant connection with his father.
Raised by his mother in Sukura, Accra, after moving from Laterbiorkorshie, Maurice acknowledged his father’s financial support but lamented the lack of emotional closeness.
Despite his father’s ministerial responsibilities, Maurice claimed they met only three times before his father’s death, describing himself as deprived of paternal affection.

Reflecting on his youth, Maurice admitted to being a troublesome child, recalling incidents where his father threatened police action due to his behavior.
His father’s will famously referred to him as the “bad boy,” a nickname reflecting his rebellious past. Despite their strained relationship, Maurice inherited an eight-bedroom house in Accra, a testament to his father’s financial provisions.
Gibson Dokyi Ampaw, remembered as a formidable lawyer who never lost a case during his 11-year legal career, fathered 14 children with three women, Maurice being the only one to follow in his legal footsteps.
