John Mahama explained that footballers in the top league would receive regular payments to help with their living costs. This idea aims to support local players and improve the quality of Ghanaian football.

The former president also talked about improving sports facilities across Ghana. He mentioned plans to fix up old football fields and develop better spaces for track and field events.

Mahama stressed that his government would not ignore less popular sports, promising to give them as much attention as football. Addressing concerns about the poor condition of many stadiums in Ghana, Mahama was careful not to make unrealistic promises.

John Mahama admitted that building new stadiums might not be possible right away due to economic challenges. Instead, he proposed renovating existing facilities to make them usable for night games, which could boost the country’s 24-hour economy.

Mahama highlighted the importance of sports in creating jobs and supporting economic growth. He suggested that improving sports infrastructure could be part of a larger plan to develop Ghana’s overall infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and industrial areas.

The NDC leader, who was Ghana’s president from 2012 to 2016, is hoping to return to power after losing the last two elections to the current president, Nana Akufo-Addo. His sports proposals are part of a broader campaign to win support in the upcoming election.
