Firmino took to Instagram to share the special occasion, posting photos of himself and his wife during the ordination ceremony.

“This was an incredible and unforgettable night,” he wrote. He expressed his deep gratitude for witnessing God’s work firsthand and the burning desire he and his wife feel to share God’s love with others. He also highlighted the new responsibility they hold as pastors “after God’s heart.”

In his own words,

“What a memorable and unforgettable night. This church was BORN in the heart of God and we are extremely grateful for the privilege of witnessing up close all that the Lord has done,” he wrote.

“Since our encounter with Christ, a longing burns in our hearts… Let people know this love that has reached us. Now we have another craving and responsibility… Be Pastors after God’s heart and who cooperate with the Kingdom.”

He added: “Today we are totally flabbergasted when we see the size of God’s mercy upon us. He really picks the unlikely! Thank You Jesus. Thank you Pr Jairo and Pr Keila for pushing us and believing in us.”

Firmino’s journey to pastorship comes alongside a successful football career. He spent eight seasons at Liverpool, a period that included winning the Premier League and Champions League titles.

While now a pastor, Firmino remains active in football, currently playing for Saudi club Al-Ahli with two years left on his contract.

This career shift follows a similar path taken by former Ghana captain John Mensah. Mensah recently revealed his dedication to church ministry after retiring from football. He now worships and spreads the word of God at Resurrection Power New Generation Church.
