“I’m so sad, by the way I behaved, so sad that grown men have to throw water balloons to enjoy a day,” Trejo told the outlet. “I don’t think I would’ve gotten out of the car if someone hadn’t yelled ‘It’s acid.’ That’s when I panicked.”

Fearing for their safety, Trejo exited the vehicle to confront a group of people on the sidewalk. The situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation with one man wearing a black sleeveless shirt. Video footage obtained by KTTV captured the moment the alleged assailant threw a punch at Trejo, causing the actor to fall backwards onto the street.

Trejo expressed regret over how he reacted but emphasized that the panic was triggered by the fear of an acid attack. Both Trejo and Castillo believe they were singled out because they are Mexican, noting that no one else was hit with water balloons during the parade.

The incident has drawn significant attention and sparked conversations about public safety and targeted attacks during community events.
