An Accra Circuit Court has issued an arrest warrant for a senior military officer implicated in a GH¢136,000 recruitment scam involving various security services in Ghana.

Captain Abel Nartey, stationed at Army Headquarters in Burma Camp, Accra, allegedly received GH¢120,000 from the total amount to facilitate the enlistment of individuals into the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, and Ghana Immigration Service.

Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, leading the prosecution, informed the court presided over by Samuel Bright Acquah that Captain Nartey had been repeatedly summoned by the Regional Criminal Investigation Department but failed to cooperate.

Requests to the Military Police and Army Headquarters for his cooperation yielded no results, prompting the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.

In related proceedings, the court allowed an amendment to the facts and charges, during which Clement Ayomah, another military officer involved, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and defrauding by false pretenses.

Ayomah was granted bail under previous conditions and the case was adjourned to August 5, 2024.

The prosecution outlined that the complainant, George Ofori Amoako, engaged Ayomah after being introduced by an intermediary who claimed Ayomah could secure recruitment slots.

Ayomah allegedly collected GH¢136,000 from Amoako, with GH¢120,000 forwarded to Captain Nartey. Despite receiving the funds, neither fulfilled their promise, leading to police involvement and Ayomah’s subsequent arrest.

Ayomah has reportedly refunded GH¢50,000 and implicated Captain Nartey in his statement. Efforts to involve Captain Nartey in the investigation have been fruitless, necessitating legal intervention.
