The President’s nomination letter has been sent to Parliament and is now under review by the Appointments Committee.

This development follows the official announcement by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who nominated Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 elections.

According to reports from Joy News, Vice President Bawumia introduced NAPO to the National Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

Earlier that day, he also briefed the Majority Caucus of Parliament about his decision.

Haruna Mohammed, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, confirmed the nomination process, stating that NAPO’s candidacy now awaits approval by the party’s National Executive Council.

“His Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, and the incoming President for the Republic of Ghana on January 7, 2025, visited the national headquarters of the New Patriotic Party to officially present the name to us, which is part of the process of nominating and confirming the running mate to the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer,” Mohammed explained.

The NPP has scheduled an emergency meeting on July 4 to deliberate and finalize the nomination of NAPO as the party’s vice-presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.
