Russia has responded to Donald Trump’s claim that he could end the Ukraine war quickly. Trump, who wants to be president again, has said many times he could stop the war in just one day.

At a CNN event in May 2023, Trump said he would make Russians and Ukrainians stop dying within 24 hours. He said this would happen after he met with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia.

Trump keeps saying this as he tries to get elected. In a debate with President Biden, Trump said Putin wouldn’t have attacked Ukraine if he was still president.
But Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations disagrees with Trump. Vassily Nebenzia told reporters that it’s not possible to solve the Ukraine problem in one day.

He said the war could have ended in April 2022 when Russia and Ukraine were close to an agreement. Nebenzia blamed Ukraine’s Western supporters for stopping that peace deal.
Trump called Ukraine’s current peace plan unrealistic and said it doesn’t consider what’s happened since April 2022. The Russian ambassador warned that as things get harder for Ukraine, it will be more difficult to end the war peacefully.
Many countries want Ukraine’s borders to be respected in any peace deal. Nebenzia mentioned that Putin offered to stop fighting if Ukraine takes back its troops and doesn’t join NATO.
But Ukraine’s leader, Zelenskyy, has said he won’t give up any land to Russia. This shows how complicated it is to end the war, and why Trump’s claim of solving it in one day seems unrealistic.
