Following their 1-0 loss to France in the last 16, a journalist asked De Bruyne if it was disappointing that Belgium’s “Golden Generation” had failed to reach a final.
Visibly irritated, De Bruyne sharply questioned the notion of a “Golden Generation”: “What is the Golden Generation?”

When the reporter clarified it referred to Belgium’s team, De Bruyne countered, “And you say that France and England and Spain and Germany are not a Golden Generation? Okay, thank you.”
Clearly exasperated, De Bruyne labeled the question as “stupid” before abruptly ending the interview.
Belgium, despite their strong rankings and talent pool in recent years, have faced consistent challenges in major tournaments, such as their early exits in recent World Cups and Euros.
De Bruyne’s reaction shows the frustration of not being able to make a great impact with the Belgium national football team.
