The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the committee tasked with investigating the leaked tape involving senior police officers plotting his removal from office.

Despite serious allegations leveled against him in the leaked tape by the involved officers, the committee found no evidence to substantiate their claims.

In the leaked recording, the officers accused the IGP of excessive strictness, which they claimed could disadvantage their political affiliations in future elections.

They also alleged that the IGP was unfairly targeting officers from other security agencies in his operations.

However, the committee’s report dismissed these accusations, emphasizing that there was no basis to support the officers’ claims against the IGP.

“The actions of COP Alex Mensah, Supt Asare, and Supt Gyebi, aimed at removing the IGP for partisan reasons, pose a threat to Ghana’s democratic processes,” the committee stated in its findings.

It further highlighted, “COP Mensah, Supt Asare, and Supt Gyebi conspired to influence the President to replace the IGP with a supporter of the ruling party, which could undermine the integrity of future elections and Ghana’s democratic stability.”

Additionally, the committee found that two of the implicated officers had misled the committee during their hearings and recommended that they be referred to the Privileges Committee for further investigation.

“Supt Asare and Supt Gyebi appear to have acted in contempt of Parliament, as per the Standing Orders, and therefore, the matter should be forwarded to the Privileges Committee for appropriate action,” the report concluded.
