According to a report by dailyguidenetwork.com dated June 30, 2024, it was stated that Dr. Dampare had been requested to take leave and hand over his duties to his deputy, Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
The decision allegedly stemmed from various factors, including the 2023 leaked tape scandal, which was investigated by a parliamentary committee chaired by Abuakwa South MP, Samuel Atta Akyea. There were also allegations of insubordination against the IGP.

Daily Guide mentioned that despite the committee’s findings that cleared IGP Dampare, it was revealed that he had communication with Daniel Bugri Naabu, former NPP Northern Regional Chairman, which he denied openly.
While claims made in the Daily Guide report has not been verified, it noted that similar rumors about potential changes in the leadership of the Police Service have surfaced in the past.
In July 2023, then Interior Minister Ambrose Dery dismissed similar rumors and affirmed Dr. Dampare’s performance in his role.
The Ghana Police Service emphasized that there are no plans for the IGP to proceed on leave, urging the public to dismiss the reports circulating in the media.
