Besiktas are reportedly considering selling Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey after an underwhelming debut season in the Turkish Superlig.

Amartey joined Besiktas a year ago, following his departure from Leicester City at the end of the 2023/24 season. Despite a strong start, his stint in Turkey took a downturn due to injuries and struggles to secure a spot in the starting lineup.

According to Turkish journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu, Amartey is among several players Besiktas may offload this summer. The list reportedly includes Vincent Aboubakar, Jean Onana, Valentin Rosier, Omar Colley, Javi Montero, Arthur Masuaku, Ersin Destanoglu, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Ante Rebic.

During his season with Besiktas, Amartey made 27 appearances across all competitions, 18 of which were in the Turkish league, and contributed one goal. Despite his efforts, injuries hampered his ability to maintain a consistent presence on the field.

Before joining Besiktas, Amartey spent seven years at Leicester City, where he enjoyed significant success, including winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Community Shield. He also played in the UEFA Champions League with the English club but decided to leave on a free transfer after Leicester’s relegation in the 2022/23 season.

Amartey’s injuries have also affected his international career with Ghana. He was invited for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros last November, but only played against Madagascar before being ruled out of the Comoros match due to injury. Additionally, he missed the Black Stars’ recent World Cup qualifying games against Mali and the Central African Republic in June.

As Besiktas consider their options, Amartey’s future remains uncertain, with the club looking to restructure its squad ahead of the new season.
