Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Varane is currently in Italy to negotiate a deal that could see him join Como, dislodging interest from numerous other clubs, including several from the Saudi Pro League.

Varane’s departure from Manchester United was announced last month, ending a three-year stint that began with his €40 million transfer from Real Madrid.

During his time at Old Trafford, Varane made a significant impact, playing in 32 matches last season and contributing to 12 clean sheets. He also scored once, in a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. His final appearance for the club was marked by a victory in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

United’s decision to let Varane go is part of a broader strategy by the club’s new ownership, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, aimed at reducing the wage bill and revamping Erik ten Hag’s squad.

Despite being 31, Varane remains a highly sought-after player, with interest not only from Como but also from Saudi Pro League clubs, MLS’s Inter Miami, and his boyhood club, RC Lens.

Varane’s potential move to Como signifies a new chapter in his illustrious career. With his wealth of experience and formidable defensive skills, he would bring significant strength to Fabregas’s side.
