Even though President Ruto recently withdrew a finance bill that would have raised taxes to tackle Kenya’s debt, the public remains angry.
A popular tweet, with thousands of interactions, claims, “We no longer see William Ruto as Kenya’s President. We ask him to resign and give his office back to the people.”
Despite stepping back from the tax hike plan, which was supposed to help with the nation’s debt, the President has not managed to calm the public’s displeasure.

Many Kenyans are expressing their unhappiness on social media platforms.
President Ruto explained that not going ahead with the tax increase would leave a large gap in funding for essential programs that support farmers, teachers, and other groups.
He said the tax rise was necessary to handle Kenya’s debt of about 10 trillion shillings ($78 billion), which makes up roughly 70 percent of the country’s GDP.
