Nguemo’s untimely death resulted from a car accident in his home country of Cameroon.
The incident occurred in Ngomo, near the city of Bafoussam, and was confirmed by the Cameroonian Football Association (FECAFOOT), reports the Daily Record.
The ruling body released a statement expressing its “deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire football community.”

“The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has just learned the tragic news of the passing of former Indomitable Lion Landry Nguémo in a traffic accident. Nguemo, who was a key player for the Cameroonian national team from 2006 to 2014 and a former member of Girondins de Bordeaux, will be remembered for his contributions to football.”
Early Career and Move to Europe
Nguemo was born on November 28, 1985. His journey to professional football began when scouts from French side Nancy spotted his talent, leading to his move to Europe at the age of 15 in 2001.
He broke into Nancy’s first team four years later, making 148 appearances and scoring four goals. Nguemo played a crucial role in helping Nancy win the League Cup in 2006.

Time at Celtic and International Career
In 2009, Nguemo joined Celtic on a season-long loan, brought in by then-manager Tony Mowbray. Wearing the number six shirt, he made 34 appearances for the Hoops. Nguemo also earned 46 caps for the Cameroonian national team, participating in three World Cups between 2006 and 2014.
Later Career and Coaching
After his stint at Celtic, Nguemo played for Ligue 1 sides Bordeaux and Saint-Étienne. He later moved to Turkey, where he played for Akhisarspor and Kayserispor, before concluding his playing career with Danish club Kongsvinger in 2019.
