The conflict revolves around allegations that spaces designated for emergency access and firefighting purposes are being unlawfully sold by market management.

Accusations have been directed at Managing Director Kofi Duffour and Operations Director Nana Poku, reportedly with the backing of Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah.

According to shop owners, these critical spaces have been commercialized, compromising emergency exits and safety protocols within the market premises, particularly in the event of a fire.

Protesting traders have vehemently opposed the sale of these contested areas and are calling for immediate intervention from regional authorities, including the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Mayor of Kumasi.

Furthermore, concerns have been raised about the accessibility of fire hydrants within the market, often obstructed by traders or rendered unusable due to leakages.

The situation remains tense as both sides stand firm on their positions, awaiting resolution from local authorities to address the escalating conflict at Kejetia Market.
