Ahead of the People’s National Convention (PNC) National Congress scheduled for August 31, 2024, three prominent party members have voiced concerns over several issues surrounding the upcoming event.

Former National Chairman Bernard Mornah, along with 2020 flagbearer aspirants Samson Asaki Awingobit and Rev. Samuel Adjei Debrah, have jointly petitioned the party leadership.
They specifically challenge the GHC100,000 filing fee for flagbearer aspirants, citing it as excessively high for a party struggling to stabilize.
The petitioners argue that the PNC, which represents marginalized groups, risks losing its distinct identity if it adopts fees comparable to other political parties.
They emphasize that such financial requirements may deter potential candidates and undermine inclusivity within the party.

Additionally, the petitioners express concern about the timing of the National Congress, noting that the August 31 date leaves less than 90 days for effective preparations before the general elections.
This timeframe overlaps with the Electoral Commission’s nomination opening in September, potentially hampering the party’s readiness.
Moreover, they highlight logistical challenges posed by the annual Homowo festival in the Greater Accra Region, which coincides with the Congress date and could disadvantage party members from that area.
The petitioners also criticize the absence of clear guidelines and relevant committees to support organizational efforts leading up to the Congress.
In their appeal addressed to Col. George Bayebor, Chairman of the PNC Council of Elders, David Apasera (2020 flagbearer), and all National Executive Committee (NEC) members, they call for swift action to address these issues.
They urge the party leadership to revise the filing fee, clarify organizational guidelines, and ensure adequate preparation time for all members ahead of the Congress.
