Ian Maatsen, the young football talent, is on the brink of joining Aston Villa. His medical tests are scheduled at the Netherlands camp, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea, his former club, has granted permission for the procedure, and a hefty £37.5 million fee has been agreed upon. Maatsen’s contract with Villa is nearly settled, pending final details.

In a related development, Chelsea is set to acquire Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa’s academy for £19 million. Kellyman has already given the green light to the move, and discussions about personal terms are underway12.

Maatsen made his debut for Chelsea on September 25, 2019, as a substitute in a 7–1 EFL Cup victory over Grimsby Town. He has since been loaned out to several clubs.
During the 2020–2021 season, he played for Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan, making 34 appearances and scoring one goal.
In the 2021–2022 season, Maatsen joined Coventry City on loan, where he made 40 league appearances and scored three goals.
For the 2022–2023 season, he was loaned to Burnley, where he impressed and was named the EFL Championship Player of the Month for January 2023. Burnley won the league, and Maatsen was included in the Championship Team of the Season as the best left-back.
In January 2024, Maatsen extended his contract with Chelsea until 2026 and joined Borussia Dortmund on a six-month loan. He scored his first Champions League goal for Dortmund in a 4–2 win against Atlético Madrid in the quarter-finals second leg.
