The National Service Scheme (NSS) has made it clear that the GH¢40 fee for activating PIN codes online is needed from people who want to join the national service for the 2024/2025 year.

People were upset after hearing about this fee in the news. But on Friday, June 21, the NSS said in a statement that asking for GH¢40 for PIN codes is not new.

The NSS said that the news about the fee was misleading. They noticed that some people were worried about the GH¢40 needed to start PIN codes for joining the national service next year.

They said that the people who wrote about this didn’t really understand it and made it seem like the NSS was taking money unfairly from people. The NSS wanted to make it clear that this fee for PIN codes has been around for a while.

The NSS pointed out that this fee used to be taken out of the first month’s pay of the service people after they got their job assignments. But in 2015, they changed it so people have to pay before they sign up.

They repeated that the GH¢40 fee has been around for a long time and helps pay for important computer systems and services that make the NSS work well.

The GH¢40 includes GH¢10 for electronic ID cards from NSS, GH¢10 for dues to the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA), and GH¢20 for online services and getting an NSS certificate.
