The raid involved the search of a four-bedroom house where FBI agents removed 80 boxes of materials.
Details about the specific nature of the investigation have not been fully disclosed. An FBI spokesperson confirmed the raid as “court-authorized law enforcement activity” but declined to provide further details, as reported by the Guardian.
In addition to Mayor Thao’s residence, agents also conducted searches at two other homes approximately 3 miles south of Oakland.
These properties are linked to members of the Duong family, who own Cal Waste Solutions, a recycling company known for its political influence.

Previous reports by Oaklandside have highlighted investigations into campaign contributions from Cal Waste Solutions to Thao and other city officials.
Sheng Thao, 38, assumed office in January 2023 after serving on the Oakland city council. She campaigned on a progressive platform addressing homelessness, housing, and crime issues in Oakland.
However, her tenure has been marked by criticism, particularly concerning crime levels in the city’s East Bay area. Thao faces a recall vote scheduled for November amid ongoing public discontent.
The developments surrounding the FBI raid have sparked heightened scrutiny and speculation within Oakland’s political landscape, with residents and officials awaiting further developments from federal authorities.
