The Super Eagles are still leading their African competitors in the latest FIFA rankings, even after losing to Benin Republic. Nigeria’s national team fell eight spots in the new FIFA rankings announced on June 20, 2024.

They were 30th back in April but have now fallen to 38th. This is the second time in a row they’ve moved down, having previously dropped two places.

Their recent performances might explain the drop. They had a 1-1 tie with South Africa and then a disappointing 2-1 loss to Benin, putting their chances of making it to the 2026 World Cup at risk.

Despite this, Nigeria is still doing better than South Africa, who is 59th globally and tenth in Africa. The Super Eagles are also ahead of Cameroon and Ghana, with Cameroon at 49th and Ghana at 64th worldwide.
Nigeria ranks higher than countries like Scotland, Chile, and Erling Haaland’s Norway. At the top of the overall rankings, Argentina leads, followed by France, Belgium, Brazil, and England.
