Sylbert’s talent for costume design shone brightly in films like “Rosemary’s Baby,” where her work contributed significantly to creating an eerie atmosphere juxtaposed with the innocence of Mia Farrow’s character.

Director Roman Polanski famously instructed her to design costumes that would mislead the audience into expecting a different kind of film.

Her credits include collaborations with renowned directors such as Mike Nichols on “Carnal Knowledge,” “The Day of the Dolphin,” and “The Fortune,” as well as her Tony-nominated work on Broadway plays.

Beyond her creative achievements, Sylbert was a trailblazer for women in Hollywood, seamlessly transitioning from design into executive roles at Warner Bros. and United Artists.

Later in her career, she co-founded a production company with actress Goldie Hawn.

Anthea Sylbert’s legacy spans decades of groundbreaking contributions to cinema, marked by her meticulous attention to detail and artistic vision. Her impact on film and costume design will continue to resonate for generations to come.
