Former Black Stars captain and head coach, C.K. Akonnor, is optimistic about the future of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team.

His confidence is based on Ghana’s recent victories over Mali (2-1) and Central African Republic (4-3) in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, marking Otto Addo’s inaugural matches as head coach of the Black Stars.
Akonnor, who clarified that he has not retired from coaching, expressed optimism about the future of the Black Stars in an exclusive interview with ChannelOne TV.

“It looks very very hopeful. Of course, there are things that coach (Otto Addo) made mention of that they have to improve in that area and for a coach, I understand and I think the future is very very hopeful.”
Ghana’s victories over Mali and Central African Republic have elevated them to second place in Group I standings, with Comoros leading only on goal difference.
