The incident occurred after Fowler consumed a chicken curry that contained nuts, despite having informed the flight attendant of his severe nut allergy beforehand. Fowler disclosed that he wasn’t given a menu to select from, which led to the unfortunate consumption of the allergen. He emphasized the critical oversight by Emirates Airlines in addressing his dietary restriction, highlighting a serious lapse in passenger safety protocols.

“I’m posting because people should be aware of the severity of how bad food allergies can be and the complete negligence from @emirates airline,” Fowler wrote in his post. Accompanying his message were videos of him administering an EpiPen injection and a photo of him wearing an oxygen mask, stark reminders of the life-threatening situation he endured.

As the allergic reaction set in, Fowler’s throat began to swell, making it extremely difficult for him to breathe. He immediately alerted a flight attendant about his condition and inquired if the meal contained nuts. Initially, he was reassured that the food was nut-free. However, it was only when his friend managed to obtain a menu that they discovered the curry contained cashews.

This disclosure triggered a desperate race against time. “My throat closed up and breathing became extremely difficult,” Fowler recounted. “I told a flight attendant I couldn’t breathe and [asked] if there were nuts in the food.” Despite his worsening condition, the flight crew’s initial assurances left him vulnerable to the potentially fatal reaction.

Realizing the severity of the situation, Fowler knew he required immediate medical intervention. “This left me with the real possibility of dying on the plane as I knew I needed emergency treatment immediately,” he said. He administered his EpiPen and was given five tanks of oxygen, but his condition remained precarious.

Fowler made an plea to the flight supervisor, stating, “If you don’t land this plane soon, I will die on this plane.” His urgent appeal prompted the pilot to expedite the flight’s arrival to Dubai, where Fowler was swiftly transported to a hospital upon landing.
