Fat Joe, the American rapper, has expressed that Chris Brown could have reached the heights of fame similar to Michael Jackson if it weren’t for his 2009 assault on Rihanna, his then-girlfriend.

At 53, Fat Joe reflected on how the incident in Los Angeles’ Hancock Park overshadowed Brown’s talent. The assault occurred after a pre-Grammy party on February 8, 2009, when Brown was 35 and Rihanna was 36.

During an Instagram Live session, Fat Joe remarked that if Chris Brown never had that controversy with Rihanna, we’d be calling him Michael Jackson right now.

He praised Chris Brown as the most gifted singer, artist, and hitmaker of our era.

Fat Joe called for people to move beyond Brown’s past mistakes, emphasizing that there have been no further incidents for over two decades. He questioned whether society would ignore the truth because it’s unpopular and might lead to being canceled.

He also mentioned R. Kelly’s music, which continues to be played despite his criminal convictions, suggesting that people still recognize talent regardless of personal failings.

Fat Joe believes it’s time to appreciate Brown’s musical abilities separately from his past actions. He doesn’t condone what happened in 2009 but points out that Brown was only 19 at the time. He insists that considering Brown’s extensive hit list, it’s not far-fetched to compare him to Michael Jackson.
