Super Rugby Player Connor Garden-Bachop Passes Away at Age 25

New Zealand Rugby has confirmed the passing of Super Rugby player Connor Garden-Bachop at the age of 25.

According to a statement from New Zealand Rugby, Connor passed away in Christchurch on Monday, June 17 2024 following a medical event.

Connor, the son of former All Black Stephen Garden-Bachop and nephew of ex-All Black Graeme, recently concluded a five-year stint with the Highlanders and also represented the Maori All Blacks.

The rugby community has been deeply affected by his sudden death, with many expressing their condolences on social media.’

In a joint statement, NZR, the New Zealand Māori Rugby Board, Highlanders, Wellington Rugby, and the New Zealand Rugby Players Association extended their heartfelt sympathies to the Garden-Bachop family.

“Connor was a talented young player, a dynamic representative at various New Zealand age-grade levels, and a proud Māori All Black,” the statement read.

“His teammates knew him for his commitment, infectious energy, and ability to bring light into any room.”

“Beyond rugby, he was a devoted father to his twin daughters, a beloved brother, and son, cherished deeply by all who knew him,” the statement continued.

The rugby community is rallying around the Garden-Bachop family during this difficult time, offering support and unity in mourning the loss of Connor Garden-Bachop.
