Despite playing on the less familiar left side of central defense, William Saliba impressed overall, although this unfamiliarity led to some minor issues.
In the first half, William Saliba’s attempt at an over-the-shoulder volley went straight to an Austrian player, showcasing one area for improvement.

William Saliba’s defensive partner, Upamecano, also had a few shaky moments under pressure but managed to handle the situation without major issues.
After the match, coach Didier Deschamps praised both defenders but pointed out that their clearances could be improved.
Deschamps stated: “If I decided to play William Saliba, it is because I thought he was more ready than Konate for such a match. Even if there were some clearances that they could improve on, they exuded a lot of strength and calmness.”
