Nashville Pop Pioneer, Buzz Cason Dies at 84

Buzz Cason, the legendary singer, songwriter, and producer, known as the “Father of Nashville Rock,” passed away at 84. Cason, who was best known for his hit “Everlasting Love,” died on Sunday, June 16.

James E. “Buzz” Cason founded Nashville’s first rock band, the Casuals, before starting a solo career in the early 1960s. Although he recorded his music, Cason became best known for his work as a hit songwriter and producer. His remarkable career spanned over six decades, during which he created hits for several rock and country stars.

Cason’s songwriting prowess was evident in the numerous hits he penned for notable artists, including Martina McBride’s “Love’s the Only House,” as well as songs for Dolly Parton, Mel Tillis, and the Oak Ridge Boys.

His most iconic work, “Everlasting Love,” co-written with Mac Gayden, is one of the rare songs to enter the Billboard Hot 100 in four consecutive decades.
