GACL Announces Measures to Curb Luggage Thefts at KIA

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has responded to concerns regarding the theft of unaccompanied luggage at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by unveiling a series of measures aimed at tackling the issue.

In a press statement released on June 16, 2024, GACL acknowledged the reports and outlined its proactive approach to addressing the problem.

“The Management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited has been made aware of recent reports concerning the handling of unaccompanied baggage at Kotoka International Airport,” the statement began.

The company assured the public that it is swiftly initiating investigations to rectify the situation and prevent future occurrences.

“As part of our immediate action plan, we are implementing enhanced security measures to restrict access to sensitive areas within the airport, particularly targeting non-travellers and unauthorized personnel,” the statement continued, as reported by citinewsroom.com.

These measures are designed to bolster security in baggage hold zones and other critical airport areas.

Additionally, GACL issued a stern warning, emphasizing the consequences for individuals involved in theft or any actions detrimental to airport operations and its reputation.

“Anyone found engaging in theft, extortion from travellers, or any conduct that tarnishes the reputation of the Ghana Airports Company Limited will face severe legal consequences,” the statement cautioned.

“Management reaffirms its dedication to ensuring that all airport operations prioritize the safety and security of our passengers,” the statement concluded.
