Newmont Donates GH₵1.7 Million Worth of New Pickups to Ahafo Military Command

Newmont Africa has bolstered security efforts in the Ahafo Region with the donation of three modern pickup vehicles valued at GH₵1.7 million to the military command.

The vehicles, presented to enhance security around Newmont’s Ahafo South mine and Ahafo North project, are aimed at strengthening the capability of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in safeguarding local communities.

Mr. Alex Kofi Annin, General Manager of Newmont Ahafo South mine, highlighted the company’s commitment to ensuring the safety of employees and communities within its operational areas.

“These vehicles will significantly improve the mobility and operational effectiveness of our security personnel, enabling them to respond more efficiently to potential security challenges,” Mr. Annin stated during a brief ceremony in Goaso, the Ahafo Regional capital.

He expressed gratitude to the GAF for their dedication and underscored Newmont’s unwavering support for the security agencies responsible for protecting national interests.

Mr. Annin handed over the keys to the pickups to Mr. George Yaw Boakye, Ahafo Regional Minister, who, in turn, presented them to Brigadier General Michael Opoku, General Commanding Officer.

“The government remains committed to enhancing and consolidating peace in the region,” Mr. Boakye affirmed, noting the region’s sustained peace since 2017.

Brigadier General Opoku thanked Newmont for the donation, highlighting its potential to enhance military patrols and security operations.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Campbell Corrigan, Newmont’s Group Head of Security, Mr. Samuel Osei, Communications Manager for Newmont Ahafo South mine and Ahafo North project, Isaac Asante, Security Manager, and other senior staff from the mine.
