Everton Football Club paid tribute to their tough-tackling defender, who was also a lifelong supporter of the club, on social media.
The club’s statement read: “Everyone at Everton Football Club is deeply saddened at the passing of our title-winning defender Frank D’Arcy, who passed away on Saturday, aged 77.”
The cause of D’Arcy’s death is currently unknown.
During his five-year career with Everton, Frank made 18 appearances. He was particularly notable for his contribution to the Championship-winning season of 1969/70, where he played five times without ever finishing on the losing side.
Recent changes in Football League rules allowed D’Arcy to finally qualify for a medal, which he was thrilled to receive from 1986/87 title-winner and Club Ambassador Ian Snodin at home last year.

D’Arcy was also part of the team that won Everton’s first FA Youth Cup in the 1964/65 season, alongside players like John Hurst and Jimmy Husband.
Everton defeated Arsenal in the two-legged final, with 29,908 fans packing into Goodison Park for the second leg.
As a tough-tackling left-back, Frank made his senior team debut at Elland Road against Leeds United the following season when Harry Catterick fielded a much-changed team a week before an FA Cup semi-final.
He made two further starts in the 1970/71 season, with his last appearance as a substitute at Wolves in April 1971.
After leaving Everton, Frank had a brief spell with Tranmere Rovers before moving into non-league football with Kirkby Town.
He remained a passionate Everton fan throughout his life and was often seen in the crowd at Goodison Park until recent years.
